The honest range
Most Southern California gutter installations fall between $1,500 and $5,500. Premium copper jobs run $7,000–$18,000. Anyone quoting under $1,200 for a full home is either cutting major corners or doing a partial replacement.

| Half-round aluminum | $14–$20 | $2,800–$5,000 |

What drives the cost
1. Linear footage
The single biggest driver. Single-story 1,500 sq ft home: 120–160 lf. Two-story 2,500 sq ft: 180–250 lf. Estate home: 300–500+ lf. Get your home measured before getting quotes.
2. Number of stories and roof pitch
Steep two-story roofs require staging and add labor time. Multi-story homes with multiple roof planes (Newport Coast, Manhattan Beach Hill Section) add 15–30% over single-story.
3. Number of downspouts
Each downspout is fabricated, secured, and routed. Standard quote includes one downspout per 35 ft of gutter run. Extra downspouts: $150–$250 each.
4. Gauge selection
Standard .025″ aluminum vs. heavy .032″: adds $300–$700 to a typical home. For coastal exposure, .032″ is worth it every time.
5. Fascia repair
About 30–40% of replacement jobs need some fascia repair. Minor patches: $200–$400. Significant rotted runs: $600–$1,500+. Older homes (Mesa Verde, Belmont Shore, Bixby Knolls) almost always need some.
6. Tear-off and disposal
Removing existing gutters and hauling debris: $200–$400. Sometimes included in base quote, sometimes itemized.
7. Color and finish
Standard stock colors (20+): no premium. Custom-match color: 5–10%. Premium Kynar-500 finish (recommended for coastal): no premium with reputable installers; some quote it as an upgrade.
Watch out for these lowball tactics
- Thin-gauge aluminum (.019″–.022″). Cheaper, but fails in 5–8 years. Reputable installers use .025″ minimum, .032″ for coastal.
- Sectional instead of seamless. 10-ft sections sealed at joints. Leaks at every joint within 5 years.
- Plastic hangers. Should be aluminum or stainless. Plastic fails in UV.
- Galvanized fasteners on coastal homes. Will rust through in 5 years, gutter detaches. Stainless steel only for coastal.
- "All-in" pricing that excludes fascia repair. Then the price doubles after they've started.
What a fair quote looks like
- Itemized by linear feet, material gauge, downspout count, fascia work, removal/disposal.
- Written, not verbal.
- Includes specific brand or spec callouts (e.g., ".032″ aluminum, Kynar-500 finish, stainless fasteners").
- States warranty length on both workmanship (years) and material (manufacturer-rated lifespan).
- Confirms on-site fabrication (vs. shop-fabricated and shipped).
